In medical imaging, accurately associating patient studies with the correct orders is paramount. This guide provides a step-by-step process for locating a DICOM study and attaching it to a new accession number in cases where the automated process fails.
Accessing the DICOM Study Management Page
To begin the process, you will need to navigate to the administrative section of your imaging informatics system.
- Start by clicking on the Admin tab.
- From the dropdown menu, select Manage DICOM Exam.
Locating the Correct Study
The initial step on the "Manage DICOM Exam" page is to find the specific study that requires a new accession number. You can utilize the following search criteria:
- Exam Date: The date the imaging procedure was performed.
- Patient Name: The name of the patient who underwent the exam.
Enter the relevant information into the search fields and execute the search to display a list of matching studies.
Selecting and Preparing the Study for Reassignment
Once the search results are displayed, carefully review them to identify the correct study. The process is divided into clear steps on the page to guide you.
- Select the Study. In the search results, locate the desired study and click the Select button next to it. This action will automatically populate the unique Study ID of that exam into the designated fields in Step 3.
- Associate with a Patient Test. After selecting the study, click the Search Appointments button. This will populate a list of associated patient tests in Step 2. Find the appropriate test and click the Attach To button. This will then populate the relevant new accession number in the "Add to Accession" field within Step 3.
- Prepare for Measurement Import (Optional). If you need to import associated measurements, click the Import button in Step 2. This will populate the relevant accession number to facilitate the import process in Step 4.
Finalizing the Attachment
With the study selected and the new accession number identified, you can now complete the process.
- Attach the Study. Navigate to the section labeled Step 3 and click the Attach button. The system will then link the existing images and their unique Study ID to the accession number. A success message will be displayed to confirm that the images have been successfully attached.
Importing Measurements
If you prepared for measurement import in the earlier steps, you can now finalize it.
- Click the Import button in Step 4. A success message will appear upon completion.
Important Note: The Accession Number follows a specific format, AppointmentID_TestID. This information can typically be found in the URL of the exam's Worksheet page. It is crucial to use an underscore "_" to separate the Appointment ID and the Test ID. Using a hyphen or any other character will result in an error.
